On Sunday, June 3rd (Pentecost), at the 9:30 AM mass,
the Cathedral Choir of the Basilica of Saint Mary will
premiere "You Must Pray For The City." The work, a choral
anthem composed by Chris Gennaula (ex-Cray employee), is inspired by Jeremiah 29:7,11. The composer
was first introduced to this biblical passage through a
homily of Father Michael O'Connell in which O'Connell
outlined the Jeremiah Program. The Jeremiah Program is a
collaborative community initiative that provides housing and
support for single mothers completing their education.
This text has also been the basis of the "Jeremiah Vision,"
a broader vision of outreach programs at the Basilica.
With this work the Cathedral Choir, under the direction
of Teri Larson, continues its programming of works by
living Minnesotan composers. In the past few years the
choir has premiered or performed works of Mona Reese,
Anne Kilstofte, Libby Larsen, and Stephen Paulus.
